Closing ceremony


The expected day finally arrived and we had everything prepared for the clousing ceremony. We got in the classrooom and then we went directly to Don Bosco School. My group and I had some ballons and paper for decoration so once we were in Don Bosco School we started preparing the classroom for the children. We had olso prepared some games for them.



We were waiting for the childen and finilly they arrived, we only had 3 children but we had a good time with them.
We started playing with the games and then we sang some songs and  Rocio give a little spech for the children and we give them a certificate.

 


After that we took some pictures in group and we went out the classroom to eat pizza.

Getting more knowledge


On that day we went to a presentation given by Katy Casto  from English Language Fellow.
It was a great experience, we reviewed some important aspect we have to take into account in the moment we teach.
1. Be (or get) excited about your content class: in this point Katy explained that when we prepare a class even if we do not like the topic or skill that we are teaching we need to present it in the best way with enthusiasm to the students, so they can feel our energy and enthusiasm if not students will not be enthusiastic and they will not learn the topic.
 2. Create a lesson structure that works for you and follow it consistenly: She presented 4 different lesson structures like  "Warm- up/ cool- down" in whhe teacher start the class with a dinamic related with the topic to study in the class, "objective with agenda" in this structure the teacher presents at the begining of the class all the activities that they will do during the class, "I do- we do- you do" this one as new for me but I liked it, in that structure teacher presents the topic and maybe some sentences in which teacher applys the topicthat is being taught, teacher and students do it together and then is the students turn to apply what teacher has taught.
3. Comand respect from your students: Katy mentioned 2 important aspects that were teach students how to treat you and others and create a code of conduct with your students, she also mentions that is important to gice students the correct impresion of us, because maybe we can seem young but we need to comand respet from students also in order to set the rules in the class a great idea is to make the rules with the students so everybody agrees with the rules.
4. Give students leadership opportunities and other responsabilities: In this point we discussed the different activities we can give to students like help teacher to collect or provide materials to students, also activities in groups ,like when we ask studnets to make something we can say someone is going to be the leader or the person incharge of the time, etc different activities in which they can feel important in the class and help students that are hyperactive.
5. incorporate: VAK- Visual, auditory, kinesthetic- in every lesson: in the class we will have different type of students and each of them have a different style to learn , so in that point we discussed the different activities we can develop during the class so we can include all the students and also the importance it has to take into account all the type of learner when we plan our class. We also talk about our own style to learn.
6. Plan questions based on knowledge goals: Katy explained that when we plan a lesson it is important to have our goals clear about what students will be able to do at the end of the class and have an specific objective for each activity we will develop during the class. It is important to plan our classes knowing the type of students we have and also the knowledge students already have so we can start from there.
7. Evaluate using rubrics: She explained that we can create our own rubric to evaluate them depending on the level they are and also their age. also she said it is important to let students know what you are evaluating during a presentation or during the year so they are aware in which areas they have to put their effort.
8. Collet and use data: in this point Katy explained the importance of knowing the previous knowledge students have using surveys or making tests before developing the class, also it is important tocheck for understandng during the class so we can continue just if every student have understood.
9. Take time to reflect and adjust: She explained that after every class we need to take the time to check if all the activities we prepared worked as it had planed or if something went wrong, also to determinae the reason why the activities did ot work and analyze if there is something abput the class we need to teach again maybe some students did not get it complete or had questions so we can prepared it for next class.
10. Encourage a mindset: The last point was about having a positive mindset and also encourage our students to have it.


After the presentation we went to our classroom and get into groups to prepared everything for the next class becaus the next class we have the closing ceremony with our students.

Last teaching practicum

On that day our partners Olga, Alex and Eliseo had the oportunity to develop a reading class about past vacation.
For the warm up Alex formed 2 groups and gave to the students a puzzle that they were asked to complete. The puzzle was about a collage of different activies related to past vacations.
After that Eliseo asked students to stand up and form a circle to play the hot potatoe with a luminous ball and when the light of the ball stops the student who had the ball was asked to pass to the front and paste a verb in past in a poster Eliseo had pasted in the board about the reading they were going to present.


For the first during Olga presented the reading. The reading was presented in a very creative way, it was in a big kind of book and Olga read it aloud for all the students that were sit down in the floor. After that she asked some questions about the reading and most of them were answer correctly. Also she asked some questions about multiple answers adn the also answered correctly.




Olga read the reading again with the students and then provided a worksheet  with ture and false sentences that they were asked to answer individually and then she check it with the students.
For the post- reading students were a asked to make a drawing about their past vacation in a page that Alex provided to them.
For the wrap up Eliseo use a dice to play with the students, they were asked to throw when they had a baall that they used to play hot potatoe. Each side of the dice had a picture about past vacation and students had to say the phrase that represent the picture.


The last part of the class after break was the best because it was our turn to teach again and we had to do it together with Rocio´s group. We used the same topic but with listening skill.
To start with the class Rocio hid 8 eggs that students were asked to find around the class, when they found them all they were asked to open them and inside the egg there was a number and depending on the number they had they were given a picture and beatriz asked the question "what did you do in your last vacation?" and they had to answer accourding to the picture thay had gotten.



For the pre-listening Rocio made a great activity abut mimics a student was asked to pass to the front and make a mimic about a paper she showed to them and the rest of the class had to guest what was it about.
After that Diego played the audio for the first time and students were asked the questions "How many characther were talking in the audio?" and "what were the names of the characthers?", and students answered them correctly.



For the durings I gave them some papers about the activities about past vacation that appeared in the listening and played the audio again. After that srudents were asked to clasify the activities saying which character had made each activity, they passes to the front and paste the phrases in the correct colum depening on the character who metion the activity in the audio.
And to end with the class Wendy played the audio for the last time and a worksheet with the audio but with some missing words was provided to the students and they were asked to complete it according to what they listen in the audio.

Third teaching practicum







On that day it was our turn again to teach, but this time we were the first ones and we had to teach vocabulary, so our topic was past vacations. We decided to mix regular and irregular verbs in the phrases we presented but of couse we did not explain the rules about how t chnage the verbs and all that.

We started the class hanging out some ballons, inside the ballons there were the phrases and the labels related with each phrase about past vacations. Students were ask to explode 2 ballons each one and pass to the front to paste them in the board making pairs. After that I corrected the mistakes about the ones they did not pair correct and practiced the pronounciation with them.


 









After that students were asked to make like a race. A poster with some missing words  was pasted in the board and the missing words were giving to the students. Students were asked to take the label and go to the other side of the class room and they had to cross some obstacles to paste the word in the poster. When all the paper were pasted Diego was in charge of chek the asnwer and then practice them with the students.






For the second practice Wendy gave an envelop to the students with some scrambled words and they had to form the phrases that we have taught about the pst vacations.
For the production students were asked to make some sentences about their past vacations and then they draw a it and pasted on the board and passed to the front to say their senences.
















In the second class after the break it was the turn of Beatris, Katherine and  Rocio to present the class their topic was the same but their skill was grammar.
They started with a warm up with an activity in which fstudents were asked to form 2 groups and one person per group took turn to participate. the activity was about some question Rocio asked for the students about a picture that students had and the person who answer first and correctly got a point for their group.
After that they pasted the verbs in the board separated by regulars and irregulars. They showed the based form and the past form of the verbs and practiced pronounciation with the students.



For the first practice Beatrzi provide a worksheet with scrambled words and then she check it withe students.
For the second prcatice she made 2 groups and made like a competition, she showed the verb in present and students had to run to the board and write the past of the verb.







For the production, Katy separated the group into 2 groups and provided a board game to each group. the game was about their past vacactons and for the last activity katy gave them a picture and they were asked to ask the question "what did you do in your past vacation?" to three students and asnwer according to the picture they had.

Second teaching practicum

On this friday it was Rocio´s team the first group who taught about the household chores and therir skill was listening.
This group is composed by Katherine, Rocio and Beatriz.
They started the class with a game similar to the hot potato but with some hats that kathy gave to the students. Kathy say one of the hat´s color and the student who have the hat was asked some question about personal information. Then for the pre-listening they  hung some pictures with wool in the board to make a memory game. It was creative and called the attention of the students.


Then Rocio started the first during plying the audio and then gave to the students a worksheet to fill in the blanks about what they heard in the audio, to check answer Rocio pasted a poster of the conversation in the listening on the board and gave to the children some missing words and they passed in front to pasted the phrases in the poster.






At the end of the class students made a survey and drew what chores they do at home.




In the second part of the class it was our turn to develop the class we worked with the same topic that was household chores but our skill was reading.

To star the class we played simon says with the students with school objects.


 For the pre-listening we pasted the pictures of the vocabulary and the labels in the board, so student could pass to the front and match the pictures with the correct label using wool.


After that we review the pronunciation of the phrases and then the reading was provided to the students and we read it together foe the first time. Then I asked students to underline the vocabulary abour household chores that they found in the reading. As the second during Diego gave them a worksheet with a true and false activity and them to check the answer they played with a special color changer ball.



We were really satisfied at the end of the class because students were able to understand the reading and in the post-reading students were able to create their own sentences about household chores.

First teaching practicum

In that day my partners taught their first class.
We were very formal and using our uniforms and also we were realy nervous and exciting for knowing our students.






Teacher Orlando Gave us some instructions and we went to Don Bosco school to start the class.

   

It was the turn of Alex, Olga and Eliseo to develop the class. Their topic was "household chores" and their skill was vocabulary. They started preparing the material and some minutes later the children arrived.




The teachers presented themselves to the children and teachthem some comomn questions like "May I go to the bathroom" and "how do you say_______ in English?", then Olga started the class asking the children´s name and asking them what they like to do in their free time, then she started dramatazing the vocabulary so studets could understand the meaning of the phrases, then for the practice Eliseo Gave a worksheet to the students with some images and children were asked to write the phrase that the image represented.

To continue with the classEliseo made 2 groups and a envelop with scramble words was given to each group, so they could forms the phrases about household chores. To end the class a worksheet to make a survey was given to each student.

Preparing class

On this class we continued planing our lesson and our materials for the class we will develop at Don Bosco shcool next week.
